Press Release for Immediate Release: April 28, 2025
The Council of Licensed Firearms Owners (COLFO) acknowledges that our previous press release, dated April 28, 2025, contained inaccuracies regarding Jaye Pukepuke’s role.
New information has clarified that Mr. Pukepuke is not an employee of the police or the Firearms Safety Authority, nor is he involved in vetting licensed firearm owners. Instead, he serves as a police vettor for young people in the community, supporting youth development initiatives.
We sincerely apologize to Mr. Pukepuke and any individuals or organizations affected by the distress caused by our statement. COLFO regrets relying on unclear media reports without thorough verification. Moving forward, we commit to more rigorously fact-checking information to ensure accuracy and avoid taking media reports at face value.
COLFO remains dedicated to advocating for responsible firearms policies and public safety. We wish Mr. Pukepuke all the best in his valuable community work supporting young people.
